Hi,
I just bought a LinkStation Mini (LS-WS1.0TGL/R1) to have an easy solution to store my photos during a three-week trip, and avoid having a truckload of memory cards.
However, my first encounter with the Direct Copy feature was not really a good, since I spent 3 hours to make it work. I had reconfigured the RAID to RAID1 and created a share called "Share", and it looks like the Direct Copy feature only works if the share is named "share".
So that brings me to the question : if a feature that is as simple as pushing a button can fail under those circumstances, how can I trust the device to actually save my photos, that I won't have another chance to take, and how can I check that they were *really* saved with the Direct Copy feature, other than the LED on the front ? If a one-button feature can be broken when a letter is in the wrong case, I'd like a way to check that my photos are really on the disk after the LED has finished blinking....
The most reliable way is of course to check through the shares in the computer. The Function Light is the main way to tell if the connection was made. You are correct that it looks for a folder marked "Share", because that's the default name of the root shared folder.
