Hi All,
My NAS stopped working (showing blinking red lights). I followed the EM Mode Boot procedure (http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/FAQ-1-of-4-EM-Mode-boot-procedures-please-read-this/td-p/11008) but could not make it work, then I followed the TFTP boot procedure (http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/FAQ-3-of-4-TFTP-boot-procedure-please-read-this/td-p/11015) and was able to see the NAS in the NAS Navigator in EM Mode.
I tried to "map remote default share to drive letter" and I get this error message:
Failed Mapping. Remote default share missing.
I tried to update the latest firmware version 1.24 and I get this error message:
LSUpdater: LS-CHL that needs updating wasn't found.
I tried to update the firmware version 1.07 and the LSUpdater finds the NAS and when I press update I get this message:
Couldn't confirm that the partition exists on the TARGET. Updater will format the TARGET and will update the TARGET ***All of data will be lost*** Do you want to format and update the TARGET?
Obviously my answer is NO since my goal is not to recover the NAS but to recover my data, so the question is, is there anything else I could do at this point to access the data (assuming that data is still there)? Perhaps there are some TFTP commands that will let me query/search/get the contents of the drive. I want to make sure there are no other alternatives before opening the case, extracting the SATA drive and connecting it to a LINUX computer to see what I find.
Once I have my data, sure I will format and update the TARGET.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your time and help.
Gerardo
1) Include the model number LinkStation LS-CHL
2) Include the firmware revision. Unknown (trying to recover the NAS)
3) Include information about your computer, network, etc. Windows XP, 2GB, NasNavigator 2.24
If the goes through the TFTP but is still in EM mode, and firmware updating is saying that it will format the drive, the only alternatives to cracking open the case would be to contact a professional drive recovery service. Also besides linux there is a program for Windows/Linux called UFS explorer.
Hi Gomitos,
I am exactly where you were, and I do not understand the reply you got. Did you ever find a useable solution?
Rgds Flaske
He was saying that if the TFTP/force firmware update solution did not work that he would most likely need to contact a 3rd party data recovery service, connect the hard drive to a Linux based OS or use UFS Explorer as a last resort (within Windows).
