Do firmware updates reformat the entire drive???
I think I've lost 12 years worth of all my life files. Everything from photos to videos to books I've writtten , business projects... everything.
I have a HS-DH750GL
I was trying to upgrade my firmware from 1.03 to 2.1.
I downloaded the firmware folder from Buffalo's site and selected the file to upgrade from windows.
It was a zip file named "LS_Live_103_WebAccess Firmware"
Inside the zip file was a folder named "HS-DHGL_210_001_us"
Inside the folder were several files with one executable file named "LSUpdater"
I double clicked that to start the process.
I thought it was strange that a simple firmware upgrade took about 25 minutes. But when it was all done, I found that the login has changed to what seems like Japanese and that all my shared folders and files are gone!
Is there any way I can retrieve my files?
Please help!
I think I realize what happened.
I went to a hacker site buffalo.nas-central.org and found out that I had to connect my computer directly to the Linkstation.
Unfortunately, I did this through my network router (I did, however, disable my firewall).
I also fixed the foreign language (it was set to Japanese as default).
The drive shows that 57% of my drive is still being used, however, all the shared folders have been deleted.
Is it possible that all my files are still intact and just that the file directory structure has been destroyed?
if so, how do I rebuilt it?
Samtemp,
I've had the same problem where Network drives have failed. and seem to have lost the files but only some of the headers, Directory structure is gone.
Don't do anything with the drive. any accessing can overwrite data. I purchased this software and have used it twice. it took about 18 hours on a 60G hard drive but recovered about 95% of the files (about 20,000 files, pics, etc).
It's called VirtualLab From BinaryBiz @ www.binarybiz.com . it's worht the money if youwant to get the files back.
Good Luck!
Sounds to me like the directory structure is fine, and the data is still there. Whats probably happened is that the configuration files have been overwritten by the firmware update. It is possible to rectify this but you will need to know a fair bit about samaba share configuration. I could assist, PM me.
I had the same problem. I just created new folders with the same names as the old ones, and that was it, when i clicked on them in Explorer, all my old files were in the right places.
Yep, that "should" work, just wasnt sure how the code would would cope when it came to create the folder on disk and it already existed. There isnt a huge amount of error checking within the perl modules, so I thought it might just bomb out.
I've seen this issue before when updating firmware or if the unit is in EM mode. Recreate your shared folders with the same name, attributes etc and you will be able to access the data again.
Also try to ftp into the device, you should be able to access the data that way.
I just had the same issue, FTP not working, is set up correctly. not showing all shares, Disk capacity indicating files are still there. Windows 8.1 will not allow me to create share folder with same name.
