I have a Buffalo Ministation HD-PS80U2 which has worked fine since I purchased it, and suddenly today after restarting my Mac Powerbook (OSX) it has blipped off radar. It turns on, and the green light flickers as if it's being accessed, however, it quickly changes to orange, and then back to green. Meanwhile the laptop does not detect it, and I've just tried using another desktop computer, with the same results. Any clue as to what I can do? Also, I do have the dc-usb cable plugged in as well.

Well, I got a chance to test it out on a pc here at the university, running XP, and it showed up for a second, saying the typical "found new hardware/usb device" and then it restarted the computer. It loaded again, and the computer restarted AGAIN, so now I'm a little confused. I think it might be some strange hardware error or something that's plagued my external. All my music is on there, so it'd be nice if anyone out there could help.

Does it show up in disk utility (mac) or disk management (windows)?

I ran disk utility and it does show up there. What do I do from here? Is there anything I can do?

actually, I just did a verify check on it, and it popped up with this message:

"Verifying volume "UNTITLED"

Unable to read FAT (Input/output error)

1 non HFS volume checked
    Volume needs repair"

I have the same problem. I've accidentally removed it without properly ejecting it from my MacBook a few times in the past. Initially I was able to detect it again by restarting my computer. Eventually this stopped working and I had to repair it with Disk Utility. Now I get this message when I try to do so:

Verify and Repair disk "HD-PSU2"
** /dev/disk1s1
** Phase 1 - Read FAT
** Phase 2 - Check Cluster Chains
** Phase 3 - Checking Directories
Unable to read directory (Input/output error)
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit


1 non HFS volume checked
    1 volume could not be repaired because of an error

Were you able to solve your problem? Do you know of any better disk repair programs I should try to download?
