Hi everyone, I specifically registered to this forum to get help regarding this issue. I have a Buffalo MiniStation Lite 320gb HD-PET320U2/B-EU (Black). I bought about 7 months ago and I use it to back-up my files and I never abused it by keeping it connected 24/7, and it worked completely fine with my desktop until recently when it started disconnecting and reconnecting with a 30secs to 1min interval making file transfer impossible.
I always plug it to the rear ports of my cpu since it never works when plugged in the front and it worked perfectly fine until this issue came along. I tried plugging to the other ports and the same thing happens. However, when I tried plugging it to my laptop, it worked perfectly fine. No disconnections at all and I even connected it the whole day while using my laptop and played the videos I stored in it to check if the problem ever occurs and it never happened even once.
Concerning my pc specs(if it helps), its a Pentium D 2.66GHz, 1.00gig of RAM, the motherboard is an ASRock 775i65G, and the OS is Windows XP Professional SP2 and the PSU is 500W one(forgot the brand and model name). It's quite old, and I bought it 5 years ago. While my laptop is an acer aspire 4736z and it has 2.00gb of ram with Windows Vista Home Basic as an OS.
I searched other forums regarding this issue and some say that the USB ports in my pc don't provide enough power to support the hdd and others say that my cable might be bad, but since the it worked with my laptop, I highly doubt that its the cable. So, is the problem with my hard drive(I doubt it is) or is it that my usb ports are going on their last legs or is the wattage output of my PSU is just not enough or is it beacause my pc or MOBO is too old and its probably gonna kick the bucket anytime soon?
I hope someone can give me more answers or solutions regarding this problem so that I can fix it ASAP as I'm currently at my wits end on regarding what should I do. Thanks.
