I have a LinkStation Pro Duo LS-W1.0TGL/R1, running in RAID 1 configuration, connected to a D-Link DIR-655 Wireless-N LAN router.
I was previously running FW v3.09 and all was OK, except the NTP settings stopped working. It would not connect to any server I configured, and kept defaulting to year 2007. I decided to update to the 3.10 FW. At the end of the flash update, a error message was displayed saying a response was not received from the LS, and now I cannot access it anymore. No network shares, no Web access, nothing. I did a TFTP boot (which after many failed attempts finally sent data to the LS), and the LS now appears to be permanantly running in EM mode, and will not respond to any FW update requests, forced or otherwise. The status lights appear fine, but the FW updater displays the following error message every time:
Couldn't confirm a response from LS-WTGL-EM6CO.
please check a network address of both PC and LS-WTGL-EM6CO
Please disable the Firewall function if it is working on PC.
Updating is aborted.
I have several GB of data in the LS, so formatting is not an option. It is my only backup of my files.
I was able to work it out. The LS's subnet was being reset to 255.255.0.0. I used the 1.09 FW in Debug mode to change the IP/Subnet to 192.168.11.101/255.255.255.0, and the FW update was able to run correctly after that. Now I'm just waiting for the LS to finish rebooting itself.
Spoke too soon. The LS never finished its reboot, and the FW update timed out. Now the LS is refusing to bootup at all. The only status light that is on is the power light on the bottom (even when the power switch is set to Off). Holding down the function button on the back is not doing anything anymore. I do not think the HDDs are powering up correctly. I really screwed up my LS, didn't I??? All because the 3.10 FW screwed up the first time around!
If I buy a new LS-W1.0TGL/R1 and configure it for RAID 1, can I then insert my HDDs from the dead LinkStation without having them be formatted, losing the data? Maybe if I just insert one HDD and let it create its own mirror on the second HDD, that would leave me with one HDD from the old LinkStation should something go wrong.
Since Buffalo does not sell the LS-W1.0TGL/R1 anymore, if I buy a LS-WXL/R1 instead, is the formatting of the LS-W1.0TGL/R1 HDDs compatible with the LS-WXL/R1 so I can just slip them in and use as-is?
