Title: permissions/access restrictions
Post by: philkhor on April 20, 2010, 08:58:29 AM

(This message repeated here to start new thread).

Having managed to set up web access for my LS-CHL-V2737 Firmware 1.21,  I now have a follow on problem with the web access in that all & sundry can read my files and that if I try to change permissions then I can't access the HDD from the LAN either. The instructions in the manual are impossible to decipher.

Are there any step by step instructions I can follow? I have a peer to peer network with XP & W7 running. Ideally I would like to:

1. access all the files on the HDD from any compuer on the LAN without restrictions

2. have full access to the HDD from the web but only with my own password

3. give access for read & download only to one folder on the HDD from the web on a different (guest) password

Is this possible, and if so, how?

Access restrictions cannot be differentiated between local access and Web Access (i.e. if you want restrictions for one you have them for both).  The specification that you're asking for seems like it can only be acheived by utilizing a hardware firewall or a server.
