Title: Linkstation Quad shows green lights but disk disconnected and red light but all disk info there
Post by: Mathaniel on April 19, 2010, 07:13:27 AM

I have just purchased a LinkStation Quad - Model LS-QL F/W 1.11 - and am unable to configure a RAID 5 array due to the following issue.

1) While on the front panel the Disk 2 and Disk 3 lights are showing green the actual Web Admin says they are disconnected. This means:-

    a) There is no disk information
    b) The drives cannot be selected for anything

2) While on the front panel the Disk 4 light shows red and an error comes up on this drive when you open NASNavigator the following occurs in Web Admin:-

    a) There is full disk information for the HDD
    b) Selection of the HDD for any operation causes the LinkStation to hang and requires a full power reset to correct

I have read the manual and while it recognises there will be error states it provides no information on what to do. It also has no information on how to run diagnostics reset the error.

I have the device plugged into an Apple Airport Express and am using a D-Link 802.11n wireless adapter on a 64bit Acer Aspire runinng Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium.

NASNavigaotr2 finds the device but can't do much with it. I have put in 3 X WD Caviar Green 1TB drives. I have swapped the drives between slots but whichever drive goes in slot 4 has all the info and a red LED. Put it back in slot 2 or 3 and it has a green light but is disconnected and no drive info.

Would appreciate a plan of action that does not involve taking it back to the shop.

Regards,

Mathaniel

Thank you for posting in deatail the problems you are facing.  Unfortunately from the sound of things you will either need to return it to a shop or file for an RMA.  Either/both the SATA controller otr the RAID controller have seemed to malfunction.  This is not a issue that is easily resolved without the use of the RMA department.  Please feel free to contact a technical support rep at 866-752-6210

Hello Again,

Thanks for the reply and it does sound serious but I actually tested all four of the new HDDs on my system and they all brought up errors; one even caused Windows 7 to BSOD!

I'll swap over the HDDs and see how I go.
