I did manage to set up web access on this but then I tried to set it up as a print server for a Canon ip4500 and everything went wrong!
First I lost all access to the folders (share didn't show up at all). My only fix was to reformat the drive, so at least I was able to backup my files again. But I tried to set up the print server again and lost access to my files yet again. This time, I did manage to get access to my files by turning off the machine and turning it on again.
I dare not try to set it up as a print server in case it all goes awry again.
Now when I try to set up web access it gets to the point where the info panel tells me it's "saving data", progresses to "loading data" and finally gives up with "current session has expired. Please sign in again".
I've tried turning off my firewall & virus checker to see if these were causing problems but no joy.
I would really like to access my HD from the web and to use it as a print server for the Canon. Am I doing something wrong or do I have a defective unit?
Which web browser are you using? Try to update the firmware then st it back up.
Try Firefox and see if that helps.
Well. It's very odd. Wasn't working yesterday; just checked it and (having done nothing in the interim) it is now working. Do I now dare to set up the print server or do I just leave it well alone?
The printer cannot be a muti-functional printer and it has to support post script. If you have a printer that falls under the criteria then I would set it up.
Thanks Josh. I now have a follow on problem with the web access in that all & sundry can read my files and that if I try to change permissions then I can't access the HDD from the LAN either. The instructions in the manual are impossible to decipher.
Are there any step by step instructions I can follow? I have a peer to peer network with XP & W7 running. Ideally I would like to:
1. access all the files on the HDD from any compuer on the LAN without restrictions
2. have full access to the HDD from the web but only with my own password
3. give access for read & download only to one folder on the HDD from the web on a different (guest) password
Is this possible, and if so, how?
Took me some time but eventually figured out that my printer doesn't support PostScript.
Please ignore access restrictions query - I have started a new thread for that.
many thanks for your help.
