Title: Error backing up to usb drive from LS Pro DUO
Post by: bs23n1b on April 07, 2010, 11:51:24 AM

Well I learned my lesson with the Linkstation after losing a drive in raid 0. So I put 2 new 1tb drives in in raid 1 AND plugged a usb drive in to back up my data to. I scheduled a weekly backup and it fails each of the two backups it was supposed to run so far with this in the log:

-------- BEGIN BACKUP 2010/04/04 00:15:03 array1/BuffaloNAS -> LS-WTGL97C@usbdisk1 --------
building file list ...
26740 files to consider
rsync: cannot stat destination "/mnt/usbdisk1/_backups": Input/output error (5)
rsync error: errors selecting input/output files, dirs (code 3) at main.c(493) [receiver=2.6.8]
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (8 bytes received so far) [sender]
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(463) [sender=2.6.8]
-------- END BACKUP 2010/04/04 00:15:08 array1/BuffaloNAS -> LS-WTGL97C@usbdisk1 --------

The USB drive is formatted in XFS, and is used for no other purpose other than backup for the LS. The strange thing is if I go in to the web admin and set up a new job as an immediate backup it works fine. The LS and USB drive are on 24/7 so I can't figure out why the scheduled backup won't run but the immediate does. The scheduled backup is set to run at midnight so nothing else is accessing the NAS.

What's the firmware versions of the devices?

3.10 on the LS, the usb drive is a 1tb seagate that was formatted through the web admin page to xfs.

I would try re-initializing the unit.  Worst case scenario is to force flash the firmware.
