Reposting from 2024. I have several terastastion TS-XL with firm ware 1.75.  On two of the units I am experiencing a strange behaviour with several folders on two of the drives, seven in total 2 units.  I cannot delete the folders.  I can copy files and folders into them and the new ones will delete but when I try to delete the "stuck" folder the files inside are deleted but not the folder itself.  No error messages at all.  Tried with several file managers all with same result.  Tried on a PC with Win 11 and one with windows 10.  I have also tried using CMD prompt do delete the folders but it returns a folder not empty. Is there a utility or such that can directly access the files and folders on a Terastation TS-XL, or any idea how to delete the folders.  Each unit is set up with 4 2TB hard drives as just drives, not raids. I know this is not killer, but it would be nice to clean them up.

Have you tried creating a new administrator account on the nas, and making sure the primary group is administrators?

Can you just move the data you need OFF of the drives (even temporarily), and just reformat them?

I forget how to reset the units to factory new, there is a way.  As a last resort, you can also remove the drives and zero them out, but then they will not boot at all, and you will need to TFTP load the firmware back into the units (I posted instructions for TFTP here a long time ago), then they will be similar to factory new. 

There was a guy with 0s and 1s for his nickname, I think it was 2600 in binary???  Maybe he can point you in the right direction.  I think there's some way to put java on a pc and you sorta like telnet or ssh into the TS-XL device.  Maybe that is what you need to do.  I think he had me do it once, maybe it is in the old posts here, I do not know.

I am not that great with Linux permissions.  This sounds like a chmod or whatever might need to be done through a shell or something, and that's a bit above my head.  chmod is sorta like ntfs permissions, but for Linux.

Since the TS-XL units are Ext, you're going to have only the Linux permissions there, not windows.

If it was me, I'd copy the data off to another disk, and just reset to factory settings.  That should wipe it all out.
