Hello,

I was gifted a new Buffalo LS210D, as my friend could not get it working.

It's supposed to be able to use SMB 2 and 3, but unless I enable SMB 1, the device does will not show up on my network. I'm accessing it with Windows 10.

Enable SMB 1, which of course is a NO NO, and everything works fine.

Any suggestions to avoid enabling this security risk protocol?

BTW, I should have stated, I have the device set to "Switch between SMB2 and SMB1 automatically". But the device was still not visible on the Network until I enabled SMB1 on my Windows 10 computer.

Anyone out there???? I've worked in IT for 30 years, and I don't get this, unless it's a known bug, but I can't find any reference to it with a Google seach.

I have to make a correction on my post. Previously, I said:

I have the unit set to "Switch between SMB2 and SMB1 automatically".

This is incorrect. I tried that setting, even with SMB1 enabled on my Windows 10 PC. If I use the "Switch between SMB2 and SMB1 automatically" setting, I can't see the device on my network.

Then only way I can see the device, and access the shared folder is to set the unit to:

SMB Protocol: SMB1 only

If I configure the unit as SMB1 only and of course enable the Protocol on my PC, everything works fine. This unit is only a few weeks old, the firmware is up to date, and I'm using the most recent Nas Navigator software.

Does anyone have an idea why this unit will only work if it's configured for SMB1 only?

Since the unit was a gift from a frustrated friend, I have no invoice. He threw that in the garbage he was so angry with the thing. Thus, I can't open a Support ticket with Buffalo.

Please help.
