Title: LS441DE-EU 8tb Disks not booting
Post by: hunterian on September 27, 2024, 11:34:11 AM
Hi, I know this is an old product but picked one up on FB Marketplace. Works great with 'small' disks but I want to use 4 8tb Seagate Enterprise disks (1rm112). With any of them installed the system just wont boot. I have attached all the disks to a pc and diskpart 'cleaned' them and tried factory restoring the system with no success. If i boot the nas without the disks and an existing disk I can get into the Gui and if I install any of the new disks when the system is up they come up as failed without trying to spin them up?

Any one have any idea if this will ever work?

Thanks

Take a look at the Quick Start Guide on the support page and the "If the LinkStation doesn't Boot after a Hard Drive is Installed" accompanying document. I believe that covers this exact scenario.

Hi, I had already tried doing a clean from diskpart. What has actually helped is doing a '0' with a disk cleaner. Its still a bit hit and miss but currently syncing my array. Only 3 days left :-)

The key is to leave them all with no partitions. The bootloader will crash/hang trying to scan sufficiently large partitions looking for boot files. Many drives come with one big partition which will trigger that issue.
