Hi all.
I need to know if im doing anything wrong trying to get my HD H160LAN out of EM mode.
Ive tried re-flashing over the network and direct from pc to device. With firewall off and virus scanner off. tryed on windwos 7 and xp.
any ideas? If the hdd is dead will the ROM still flash?
When the unit is in Em mode it is running off of the flash. Make sure Nas Navi is diabled and make sure there on the same subnets.
what is Nas Navi? and ill check the subnets
Nas Naviagator is a client utility. Go to buffalotech.com/support/downloads
Download and install the 2.24 version
downloaded an installed it gives me no extra options that i can see.
Just tells me my drive is in EM mode and need s firmware reset.
Cant find anywhere to disable Nas Navi.
Exit out of it in your system tray. Did you download the firmware hardwired into your router or did you download it wirelessly?
Wired not wireless.
I could try redownloading.
Just so you know which one im using its the:
HD-HLAN_FW147.zip
maybe i could try 144? But the link doesnt work so i cant download that one.
still no go after re download. What is EM mode? It doesnt make sense to even have this mode does it?
So lets run through this.
I connect the device straight to my PC running windows xp with a straight cat6 cable.
i set the comp ip to 192.168.11.140, 255.255.255.0
the switch on the back of the device is set to straight
i deactivate virus scanner and firewall
i plug in the power and the network to the device and power it on
when the power eld stops flashing i open the flashing program
i click reflash and put in no password
then i wait and it fails. Doing anythign wrong?
Also the DIAG LED flashes red a few seconds before it fails.
Try the 1.47 and try it with this.

EM is known both as Engineering Mode and Emergency Mode. The simplest answer that I can give is to help recover the NAS device to its original function. Engineering Mode is for NAS firmware recovery purposes and is not to be utilized to let your NAS limp to its death.
Nope still getting failing. Can i just pull the HDD out of the case and plug it into a pc?
You could try getting a cat5 crossover cable as a strait link with normal network cable wont work unless you run it through a switch or hub. For a direct connection you must use crossover cable.
A Life ? Where can i download one ?
You do not need a crossover cable. You can use a basic ethernet cable to directly connect the unit to your PC . Directly connect the unit then try to boot the unit into Em mode.

After the unit is in EM mode then you should be able to flash the firmware. If you take the HD out then you will need a Linux Enviroment.
Hi, I am a new member of forum. Would a newcomer be warmly welcome here? Good day you guys!!!

You may not need a Linux environment to read a EXT3 drive - any XP Windows computer works fine, but you need to google for EXT2/EXT3/XFS win32 drivers and install them first. See http://www.ext2fsd.com/ and http://www.fs-driver.org/ or you can try colinux (runs Linus as a Win32 application, see http://polishlinux.org/linux/ext3-reiserfs-xfs-in-windows-thanks-to-colinux/ ) Of course, if all else fails, boot Linux from a CD http://ubcd4win.com/downloads.htm :)
