Title: Can I SSH from the LS-WXL?
Post by: LesG on August 06, 2024, 06:05:49 AM
I've had SSH (and Samba) working on my LS-WXL for many years now, and am HUGELY grateful for the the new functionality is has opened up for me. I can ssh to my NAS as and when I want know, but ssh FROM it is another matter. I had foolishly assumed that if I could go one way then I could go the other, just as easily - wrong! As I've tinkered, I've begun to think that maybe it's not even sure it's possible.

If I simply try to ssh to (any) another box, I get no kex alg I know nothing about the workings of ssh but I think that's telling me there are no kexalgorithms (whatever they may be!)

Is there an openssh compatibility issue? The NAS is running OpenSSH_3.7.1p2, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0.9.8ze 15 Jan 2015, my preferred destination (Raspbian) is OpenSSH_9.2p1 Debian-2+deb12u2, OpenSSL 3.0.11 19 Sep 2023

I cannot update the ssh version on the NAS (I presume) so am I stuck? I presume I equally cannot update any of the algorithms/ciphers/etc. Is what I'm trying to do even possible?

It's been a while (due partly due to forum migration) but I've developed a work around. No, I haven't been able to enable ssh FROM the LS-WXL but I have fashioned a solution to my needs with tftp. Running a tftp server on another device, I can send messages from the LS-WXL. It's a bit noddy but it works!
