Title: Buffalo LS220DE set-up + info
Post by: johnyx99 on June 12, 2024, 09:22:21 PM
Hi experts.
I have few questions foe you.

Recently i bought Buffalo LS220DE brand new for £40. I believe good price. There was spare 2x8TB drives at home, so i thought i will have nice NAS at home with availability to watch movies at home or when i am away. I am not computer illiterate, can do a lot, but for some reason i networking was tough nut to crack for me. So here are my questions for you guys.

1. I set up webaccess, i believe correctly, because i can watch movies in my TV and phones without any issues. But when i disconnect Wi-Fi, no joy. I checked this and other forums and there is something about port forwarding. Maybe ill be able to do something on my Virgin Media Hub 5. And just for info, I do run latest firmware (1.84) and i have latest apps (phone) as well. I do not mind proceed with factory reset and start again.

2. I believe you can install apps in different NAS's, something like plex or kodi. Can i install some apps to this NAS?

3. Can I run webaccess and DLNA server at the same time? What is the difference between them both?

So yeah, here we go. Thank you for anything and everything.

Jan

To answer your questions:

1. WebAccess requires port forwarding to be accessible outside of the local network.

2. You cannot install any apps on any Buffalo NAS, they run a closed operating system.

3. WebAccess is designed to allow access to a particular folder from outside the local network, it is purely a remote access function. DLNA is designed to stream
media from a server to a client. They perform completely different functions. Yes, they can both run at the same.
