Title: Ls210d visible on private network from W 8.1 but not from W 11
Post by: KLLG on October 31, 2023, 03:31:27 PM
I am using the linkstation as a common storage location in a radio station, to store music, stationIDs, PSAs, promos, and pre-recorded shows. I'm in the process of replacing my old Windows 8.1 workstations with Windows 11 workstations. When I first setup my LS210D >:( it was immediately visible as a shared device in file explorer on the Windows 8.1 computers. I have connected one of the Windows 11 workstations, which can see both of the Windows 8.1 computers, but cannot see the LA210D except as a Media Device. From that I can access the device webpage, but I cannot transfer files.

Do you have SMB2 enabled on the Linkstation?

It's set to use SMB protocol, which is described as switching between SMB1 and SMB2 automatically.

Thanks for the SMB tip. The problem is solved by turning on SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support on the Windows 11 workstations. Apparently only SMB Direct is turned on by default.

Don't do that, disable SMB1 on the PCs and enable SMB2 on the NAS. SMB1 is a major security risk.

Windows 11 by default uses SMB3. To use SMB 2 you have to enable the legacy protocol.

Nope, SMB2 is enabled by default on Windows 11, you're confusing SMB2 and SMB1.
