Hi,
I'm considering either the Linkstation Live, Linkstation Pro, or Linkstation Duo (not Pro Duo).
Intended use is to stream HD movies to my PS3 in mp4 format. Mostly 720p but some 1080p. Will be connected over wired ethernet. I currently don't have a gigabit router, just 10/100, but may also be picking one up if it would improve things.
Does it matter which one I choose? I don't need the additional performance of the Linkstation pro just for streaming videos, right? Or running the Duo in RAID 0? Or do I need to use one of them to make playback smooth and not jerky?
Also, the media server in all of these is twonky right? I know with some consumer/prosumer NAS out there, the media server only considers certain formats to be videos, and won't stream anything else even if the DLNA client (in this case the PS3) is able to handle it.
Thanks
I personally would get the Duo. Not only does it perform better but it has swappable HDDs where as the other two don't.
The Linkstation Pro (LS-GL) doesn't even have a media server.
The Live would work as long as you get the CHL and not the DHGL. The DHGL uses PCast and it wouldn't be supported with the PS3. The CHL uses twonky and would be the better cheap option.
Wow....sounds really cool....I was lookign at buying the Linkstation Mini (LinkStation Mini™ - LS-WSXL/R1) and I also own PS3- would I be able to do the same with movies- can you share insight as to what you do to be able to do that? Thanks much!
The mini can also stream to the ps3 as well yes.
