Title: WS5420RN6 - WSS 2016 - Should we avoid ReFS ?
Post by: sva on July 09, 2023, 09:13:02 AM
Hello,

I have two WS5420RN6 boxes with 4 x 8TB drives. I have both boxes setup to use RAID 5 - and when an array rebuild event arises, it lasts 5 days (precisely - slow/annoying/but I guess expected)
.
Neither box has any data transferred to the array yet...baring the Windows Storage Server 2016 installation, so I can start again - though that'll be another 5 days apeice.

The problem I am having, is with the 2nd box - which I had setup with the newer ReFS filesystem - it tends to want to enter a Rebuild Array more frequently than the former box which has been formatted with NTFS.   So I am wondering why ? Is it a known issue when using ReFS with RAID 5 or perhaps its the way in which my drives are partitioned.

I have published my configuration here:

Any thoughts ?

Thanks in advance,
