Title: Terastation II Active Directory "administrator password problem
Post by: Claudioc on March 29, 2010, 08:37:06 AM

Hi everybody,

We use a Terastation II model TS-HTGL/R5 firmare 1.20.

We use it for vmware backup, window file server incremental backup.

I have a problem insert it in a W2003 domain. I'm using an administrator password like abcdef$$**00.

The problem is that Terastation report the following error when I try to register it in domain (Nework->Workgroup/domain):

"The Administrator Password contains at least one invalid character.
The Administrator Password may include 256 alphanumerical characters, a hyphen `-`, and an underscore `_`."

Is there a way to solve? I don't want to change domain administrator password.

Kind regards.

sorry but what's the problem? I use some other storage solution on my network but only terastation give me this password problem when I try to join it on a domain.

May I have to change my administrator password cause terastation won't use it?

You will have to create or change the administrator password for this unit to join.

Sorry, but this is really bull**bleep**!!! How can you make other password validations than Microsoft? For your own product login this is OK but not for Active Directory Login!!!

I hope there will be a update for this kind of problem.

The problem lies within SAMBA itself, SAMBA is a limited language that will only accept certain characters, and unfortunately that is the limitation present.  Buffalo does offer devices for AD that support special characters.  This product here uses a Server 2003 base set to run the operations  http://buffalotech.com/products/network-storage/business/terastation-wss-ws-qlr5/
