I created a share named "music". I have two users, "readwrite" and "read" that have read/write and read-only permissions at the user level, respectively.
Within the music folder there are two folders, AUDIO and PLAYLISTS.
"readwrite" has read/write access to both the AUDIO and PLAYLISTS folders. works perfectly.
"read" has read access to the PLAYLISTS folder but no access at all to the AUDIO folder.
I have removed all permissions and re-applied them several times. I have restarted my NAS several times. I have re-created the AUDIO folder and the "music" share several times.
I am managing all the permissions via the web admin interface (not by mounting the shares), and creating the folders/files via a Mac 10.5.8 Intel. I've been testing the permissions on both that Mac and a Dell running XP SP2. My hardware is LS-QL F/W 1.05.
I updated to FW 1.10 and re-created the share, and still have the same issue.

Not sure how you did this considering you cannot set permissions on sub folders...

Try disconnecting from all of your shares, rebooting and remapping them (by IP address if you aren't already). Also try updating the firmware.
This is a huge issue. We are currently in the process of abandoning our terrastation after only a week of use due to this issue. The MAC machine itself creates the folder permissions and I've been told by Buffalo support that MAC OS 10.5.8 is the problem.
As a work around creat all the folders on the desktop of the MAC and then drag them onto the NAS - everyone should then be able to access all the files - beware though - if a client accesses and changes any file on the NAS the permissions will be buggered again.

Then if the Mac OS is the problem then I would hope Apple is in the process of fixing it or has fixed it with their latest OS release. We can't control what Mac does with permissions on newly created folders but we are looking into it from our end. Thank you.
