Title: Unable to browse Terastation from a Windows 7 computer
Post by: rpelletier on March 17, 2010, 01:42:04 PM

Boy, am I ever tired of this Terastation!  Buffalo has been no help, and waiting a day or two for clarification to their 5 word answers is really eating up my time!  It's easy enough to tell my client he shouldn't have bought these things, but he still wants me to get them to work...

Fact is, I am unable to browse through the shared folders from two different Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit) systems.  This is not an issue from an XP or Server 2003 system - they work just fine.  I have changed the registry settings (for the NTLM levels) and had no luck.

Changed my password to meet the cheesy requirements by Buffalo.  Everybody else in the industry says to use special characters, it's supposed to be more secure.  However, I have to go through the entire organization and change the passwords to less secure options, just to please Buffalo!

However, changing the Domain admin password and my password to a less secure one that Buffalo supports didn't help.  When I open the shard folder, most of the sub-folders and their contained files still have a grey X over them, and when I try to access them, I get a "might not have permission" error.  I DO have permission, as evidenced by my ability to access them just fine from an XP system.

Has anyone out there had any luck with this?

Couple questions;

1.  Which terastation?

2.  Which firmware?

3.  How are you bowsing to the files?

I am having a similar problem but I don't think it is the Buffalo product that is causing it.  I have a WZR-HP3000NH router. I have attatched a USB drive. I can access the drive from an XP machine. I cannot access it from a Windows 7 machine. I get the same "you do not have permission error. I did notice that when I mapped the drive on the XP machine I was prompted for the User name and password for the router. When I mapped the drive on the WIndows 7 manchine I was not. That leads me to believe that this may be a Windows 7 issue. Anyone have any ideas?

It seems that it is mostly a W7 issue, there have been multiple fixes, seems network dependant.  Users have disabled te 128 bit encryption req on W7, others have the the NTLMv2 to negotiate with LM  NTLM, while others have had good fortunes with simply turning off the UAC.
