Title: Email Notifications Stopped Working
Post by: rsenio on October 27, 2022, 01:07:37 PM
For the longest time I've had a clients NAS setup with email notifications from their O365 tenant. Settings were as follows

SMTP Server Address:smtp.office365.com
SMTP Port:587
Sender Address:it@xxxx.ca (where xxxx is their domain in O365)
Authentication Type: Login (SMTP-AUTH)
SSL/TLS:STARTTLS
Username:it@xxxx.ca
Password:******************

Password hasn't changed, and I can login to Office.com with the account. In the O365 admin, SMTP Authentication is enabled for this specific user as Modern Authentication is enabled for the Org settings.

I have other scan to email devices setup with an existing O365 connector and I have replicated the settings on the NAS, but those test emails fail as well. Settings are:

SMTP Server Address:xxxx-ca.mail.protection.outlook.com
SMTP Port:25
Sender Address:it@xxxx.ca
Authentication Type:Disabled
POP3 Server Address:Not configured
POP3 Port:110
SSL/TLS:STARTTLS
Username:it@xxxx.ca
Password:******************

From what I see on the web interface it seems like when I disable SMTP auth it's also disabling the SSL/TLS settings, which are required for sending through a connector.

As a test I used the settings for the O365 direct send option. Which doesn't require smtp authentication, or SSL/TLS settings. The only restriction is it can only send email to addresses within your O365 tenant. This worked, and I had to forward email from that account to my email address.

It does appear as though disabling SMTP Auth also disabled SSL/TLS settings, or it's not using TLS 1.2. This should be fixed!

But it begs to ask why I can't send email via SMTP Auth, or by using the existing O365 connector that it setup for the existing multifunction printers?? Does the Terrastation not support TLS 1.2?
