I have Link Station Pro Duo. Was set up in RAID (mirrored version) - I forget the number and Disk Check has been running for 8 hours now.
I tried to remove a drive and put in separate External Case and mount to my Computer.. Basically I could see the Partitions of one drive were healty in "XP" Computer Management, but I could not get them to mount.
When the System is together in its Raid config it will run for afew miniutes before I get a Drive Error reboot. Occassionally it comes up w/ one drive down, but sometimes not.
How to Fix? Will Partition Magic mount each drive to "My Computer" so I can copy files.
I need to get the files off while they are still there?
ACRONIS True Image?
What is best
thanks,
the device is in xfs file format, you need to plug in a drive to a linux/ubuntu machine.
OK. Will work to find one. I don't have Ubuntu running on anything right now. Is there a "Windows" way to read these? thanks,
Several more qustions here:
Depending on the nature of the crash (is the drive reformatable) are there warranties on them?
How good is Check Disk (whatever it is called in the Buffalo Control Web Page) at fixing the disks?
I think (but am not sure) that this problem grew out of trying to hook a Mac to the system. In the "Check" command I said delete mac x/y files (something like that) during the repair.
How long should the repair take?
Back to the house. The system seems to be alive from LED light movement (2 outside on, middle blinking)
I can't get the web control to engage.
I haven't been able to get NAS Navigator to engage on windows for a while.
How to proceed?
It appears my Raid1 system changed to a Raid 0 (so no redundancy) though Partitions look identical.
I installed UBuntu but cannoot boot either drive as USB drive.
Together they do start up as a Raid Drive and I can see files.
Not sure how to proceed. Can I send this back for repair and data transfer?
thank you.

Hi,
No response to my multiple updates. To summarize. The machine moved itself from being Mirrored (Raid1) to Striped(Raid0) as a result of a Drive Failure (this is not the purpose of Raid1 redundancy -- why did it not continue with just one drive?)... I was unable to get access to the DATA except in Raid0 mode -- and then only looking at "old" data that was on the Original Raid1 Volume.
Installed Ubuntu on VMWARE Player and could "see momentarily" the drives, but they would not mount (I assume because they were part of a Raid Stripe Set)...
Now, unfortunately, The Link Station sees No Formatting on the two drives. I can occassionally log into the Admin on the Web, and the shared Folder structure is still visible... If I ping the system with FTP, it proceeds to cause a Reboot of the Linkstation.
I still have Data I want to get off the Machine, but do not know how to do so. Is there a "Data Extractor" that works with these Drives that will allow me to get Data from the Machines. I prefer to do this in Windows or Mac as I have no experience with what a TAR is on Ubuntu or anything else with Ubuntu .
The sad part is that I purchased this machine thinking it would be a very safe way to keep files in a Redundant Mirrored Set. Are there some tools you can get me for going into this before I reformat and really "wipe" the disks (as they quite nearly are now).
thank you,
Please respond.
