Title: Long file names with Windows XP and up
Post by: dvblystone on March 09, 2010, 07:05:40 PM

I have a TS-X2.0TL/R5 with the following issue:

Current server that is being replaced by the NAS is a Windows 2000 server. I have the shares built on the NAS and am getting files moved over to them from the Windows 2000 server. The server is being replaced for space concerns and a host of other reasons. Some of them being corrupt files and shares that have been moved so many times that they referred to themselves.

While moving the files to the NAS I have one user that has file names that are longer than 32 characters. The NAS refuses to allow these files to be copied over and stops the copy. I have turned off the Apple support and only Windows is on. It is using SMB and should allow for more than 32 characters even though it does not read anything past 32.

Is there a work around or does this sound like something that should not be happening?

I am running past a deadline so any help would be greatly appreciated.

The firmware version is 1.10 for the NAS

i believe that 1.30 has a character length extended.  Best bet either way.  And i hope you are not using this device as a file server for more then 10 users.
