Got the LinkStation Live 1TB for my mother. Set it up, updated firmware no problem to the latest (1.24), set up users, shares, web access, updated Nas Navigator to 2.24. Transferred 11GB of music & photos from her cramped desktop followed by doing backups from her netbook. That was the last time it worked (all within first week of ownership).
The next time I went to help her with her data it was not showing up in NAS Navigator. I read the forums, tried everything. The light does not blink when following the procedure to get into EM mode. TFTP did not work (desktop it was plugged into directly just sat there listening... we tried at least 3 times.)
There has been no error codes to my knowledge. The LED stays solid blue as it should. Drive spins up and sounds as it should. I can ping the device no problem, any time - even if the device is in "off mode". If I try and access the web interface, most of the time it does nothing but the odd time I get the outline of the login screen but no fields to enter credentials.
My guess is that the firmware got corrupted... by transferring data to the device?? That's all that's happened to it since it was last working.
Thoughts? Solutions?
Appreciate it!
Tyler.
P.S. on the network there are only 1 Desktop (wired) and 1 netbook (wireless) connected via Linksys WRT54GL. Both are running XP Home
all the diagnosis that you have done is what we would have walked you through. If you have the receipt that shows you bought the device within a calendar year, then we can get u setup with a replacement.
Fixed. Sort of.
Kameran, I had gone ahead and got an RMA from the place I purchased the unit and was ready to send it back but I thought I'd spend one more night on it. This isn't trivial when the unit is 10hours away from me at my mom's house. I got her to start up her webcam so I could see what she was doing.
I noticed that when switching the unit "off", the power light would still stay on. Sometimes, it's the simplest things. I got her to turn it off, wait a minute or so then unplug it. After another minute or so, we started it back up and surprise, surprise, it was detected by NASNavigator. Great.
New problem. It locks up in doing backups, probably what happened in the first place. I have Memeo installed on her netbook and it's trying to back up 28GB of data. It's currently happening over wireless so data is only trickling onto the device but every night that I start the process, it locks up a few hours (couple gigs) later. We have to reset the device again and away we go again.
Is there any way to get the stability one would expect from such a product? Is anyone else experiencing this?
