Title: WD40EZRZ
Post by: garyhgaryh on October 09, 2022, 09:31:55 PM
I have a Terastation TS5400R.  The four slots are populated with WD40EZRZ 4TB drives.  Drive 4 is out so I bought a WD GOLD drive - 4TB WD4002FYYZ (a data center rated HD).  I put it in and start a rebuild, but was told the drive is too small.  I checked and it seems slightly less capacity than what's listed for the WD40EZRZ (looking at the buffalo UI screen).  So I a find a WD40EZRZ (same replacement as the drive I am replacing) in my desk drawer with a box that says for the buffalo if a drive fails in raid.  I try to rebuild, again it says drive is too small.   These drives (*EZRZ)  were all bought at the same time in 2017.

I tried rebuilding my array unformatted and formatted.
With the WD40ezrz drive the drive info isn't shown unless I format it.  On the WD4002FYYZ once I insert the drive into the slot and "rediscover" it, the drive info is populated (name of drive, size, etc).

Anyone have an idea of what's going on?

I'm reply to my own post.  Saw Davo's comment about unmounting and mounting again and it comes back as an unformatted drive with the correct amount of space.  Thanks for letting me fill up this space with useless chatter but I'm hoping this will help someone in the future.
