Title: Link Station isn't being recognized anymore
Post by: dlbeck on March 06, 2010, 09:49:06 AM

Hi,

I have a 4 year old 250 gb linkstation that has always worked well. About a month or two ago it started making weird noises like the fan was going bad or something. Today when I tried to backup data to it Windows Vista 64 says "network path was not found". However, it does show up under my network. The light is on per normal. I've shut it down and started it back up. I've rebooted my computer. And again it shows up under my network but if I click on it I get "network parth was not found".

1. Any suggestions?

2. If this thing is dying on me is there a way to just bypass using it as a network drive and using it as a usb drive just so I can save some stuff that's on it?

Thanks in advance,

Don

run the client utilty and see if it has firmware on it.  if it has - - then download the firmware from our support download page, and update the firmware, if not, then these device could be failing, as in the fan.

Are you talking about logging into the linkstation itself when you say "run the client utility"? I've tried logging into the linkstation but all I get now is "Firefox can't find the server at buffalo". This has always worked in the past.

And if it is dying can I turn it into a usb drive just long enough to move my data to another network drive? Provided of course the problem isn't a hd failure.

I just put my hand on it and feel nothing. Typically you can feel the thing spinning around. It feels dead. Dang I expected more than 4 years from this.

ok I've got it working again. As a last resort I switched ethernet cable and it started working again.

Thanks.
