Title: nassvc.exe and ZoneAlarm Firewall
Post by: drmcl on February 27, 2010, 11:41:44 AM

No matter what do to the settings in Zonalarm, my LinkStations wake on LAN service, nassvc.exe does not get thru which means it dows not switch on when  I power up my laptop, needless to say, as soon as i disable ZoneAlarm, the LinkStation springs to life. anybody know if it can be done at all? Alternatively, what is the mechanism that nassvc.exe isa using to keep the Linkstaion up - I assume its a ping command as even when its switched off (power save mode) its is still pingable so if I knew which port the WOL feature was listening on, I( could write my own windows service to waket it up myself?

Thankjs in advance

It sounds like something on the zonealarm side where you need to make the appropriate exception for it to allow the nas navi to contact the other device on your network.  I would recommend contacting them, or trying other firewall software.

Thanks for that. I have  launched a seperate thread on the ZoneAlarm site to see if they know how to let thus windows service talk to the NAS unit but as yet no response. I could rustle up a windows service myself in Visual Studio or Netbeans but I need to know what it is on the NSs drive that needs a prod to keep it awake -I can ping it quite easily even when its powered down in power save mode, put a ping by itself is not enough to wake it up - would anyone know what command its looking for to keep it alive in case ZoneAlarm come up short. (any other general firewall rules that need changing like a port number or something)?

Hi !

I have exactly the same problem ! I saw your thread on the ZA forum. Did you find a solution since February ?

I am running on Windows 7 and actually I do not see nassvc.exe in the processes. However as soon as I shut down ZA, the NSA springs to life...

Correction : actually I see nassvc when I check "All Users" in task manager.

nassvc seems to be running normally...

Funny part is that an other Windows 7 PC on the same network, but with COMODO securuty, starts the NAS without any problem. So it is definitively a ZA problem.
