Title: Add external drive to LinkStation 410
Post by: msummers on August 16, 2022, 06:16:43 PM
OK I have LS710 4TB NAS all installed and working fine. I would like to add an external USB drive to it to allow me to backup files from the NAS to the external drive. I happen to have a 1 TB Seagate Barracuda drive Mounted in an Amazon Basics enclosure, so that I can use it as an external drive. I know this drive is good and that it works in that mode because I have used it for several years as an external drive mounted to my Lenovo desktop. But when I connect that same drive in the Enclosure to my LS NAS, it is just not recognized. This seems strange to me, and support tells me that the internal hardware in the enclosure won't allow it to work with the NAS, but it has worked fine with my Lenovo for a year or so. Any bells ringing for you that you could share with me?

Thanks,

Murray

Is it a 2.5 or 3.5" external HDD that you're trying to use?

It's a 3.5" and it's in an Amazon USB3.0 SATA Hard Drive Enclosure B01MZC303G.
Here's a link to it - https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-3-5-inches-SATA-Drive-Enclosure/dp/B01MZC303G/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3F07H5ITN7305&keywords=B01MZC303G&qid=1660735151&sprefix=b01mzc303g%2Caps%2C47&sr=8-1
