Title: Slow writing and new firmware for linkstation pro duo
Post by: dave1892 on February 12, 2010, 06:07:29 AM

Hello,

I have a linkstation pro duo (LS-WTGL/R1-V3 F/W 3.09) and am getting very slow write performance  (a 50MB file takes an hour to write) from Ubuntu. I also have noticed this error

CIFS VFS: server of type Samba 3.0.30-1.4.osstech returned unexpected error on SMB posix open, disabling posix open support. Check if server update available.

I believe this is a bug which is fixed in samba 3.0.33. Firmware 3.09 is a year old now, so any plans to release a new one soon?

thanks

Dave

3.10 has been out since 9-8-2009

If you go to the Buffalo downloads page and select linkstation pro duo it says firmware is 3.09. So where is 3.10, and why is not in the obvious place?

This forum is for Buffalo US, unless you tell me otherwise I assume that you are from the US.  I will be happy to help you as much as I can but certain issues you will have to contact your local support for.  I noticed you are in the UK so I would contact local support for an answer as to when it will come out:

OK, thanks, although shame they have no email.

You couldn't answer my question though, could you please?

Buffalo's EU division's email support is accessable through this form: http://www.buffalo-technology.com/support/contact/

I'll forward the request to have 3.10 posted. I'm not really sure what your question is...

Yeah, shame it's a form I mean.

My question was,

"So where is 3.10, and why is not in the obvious place?"

What I mean is, presumably the place I was looking at is the most obvious place to look, whether you're in the US or not., and it says 3.09.

Ah I see. The EU site, buffalo-technologies.com, has 3.09. The US site, buffalotech.com, has 3.10. I've forwarded your request for 3.10 to be posted on the EU site.

bump...

Us second class citizens outside the USA are still waiting for 3.10...

the firmware has nothing to do with the problem of the original poster.

installing 3.10 will not fix his issue (or at least i would be very surprised if it did!)

Hello,

I have exactly the same problem as you.

My OS is also Ubuntu 10.04.

When I use smbmount or the mounting point of /etc/fstab, the transfer is slow.  (1-2 mb/s).

//X.X.X.X/documents    /media/documents    cifs    credentials=/etc/samba/user,iocharset=utf8    0    0

dmesg returns the same message :

CIFS VFS: server X.X.X.X of type Samba 3.0.30-1.4.osstech returned unexpected error on SMB posix open, disabling posix open support. Check if server update available.

But when, I navigate from Network in Nautilus, the transfer is more rapidly about x6. (14 mb/s)

Anybody have found a solution ?

Thanks.

Greg.
