I have a Linkstation Live CH500L that has until now been running happily for a long time.
It recently indicating through the Buffalo Navigator that it's gone into EM mode.
I've searched the message boards here but have found nothing that has helped me restore it to it's normal operating mode.
When I investigated using the LSupdate.exe, the Buffalo site advised be that support was only available within the USA (I'm in the UK) and despite entering my model and serial number it wouldn't let be download the firmware flashing software.
What options do I have, and what should I do?
Thanks

Thats for the downloads in the UK. If your on the US website, choose region at the top of the page, you can then get to the UK downloads.
I'm looking on http://www.buffalo-technology.com/support/downloads/ under "LS-CHL LinkStation Live"
It's not clear to me which version to use.
v1.24 gives the warning that it's for "hardware version 2 with red style user interface", as well as the message -
"Warning: This firmware is not compatible with the former hardware version and causes the death of the unit if you try to install it somehow!!! Furthermore it will void the warranty. (the firmware does not have more features, it is written for a different platform)"
I would obviously like to use the latest version, but I've never come across a user interface for my unit - unless it means the Buffalo NAS Navigator, and how would I know if I have "the former hardware version"?
My model is LS-SC500L EU I think.
Any advice on which version to use?
The user interface is web-based, it's where you configure all the settings, to access it, use the NAS navigator to find out what IP address the device has.
Then type the IP address into your web-browser and it'll open the interface.
It'll be something like 192.168.0.6
I've tried to use the LSUpdater to update to firmware (ls-chl-107-065) but it comes up with a message "Couldn't confirm the partiton exists on the target - do you want to format the target and lose all data?".
This is exactly want i don't want to do since I have a bunch of stuff on there that I would like to rescue first.
Do I have any other options?
Worst case scenario, can I open up the unit to get the hard drive out to try other hd recovery methods? (There don't seem to be any obvious ways to open the unit)
Any help or advice would be appreciated, as I already have a good supply of perfectly good bricks!
Thanks.
I ran into this yesterday
with the chl v1 firmware forced into em mode by me
rest assured your partition is there still
it seems to be a bug in the updater
i got around the problem by connecting the hd to a pc
deleting partition 1 and 2 and leaving the other ones
and cloneing the same partitions from another chl drive
i dont advise you do this unless you know what you are doing
as you may delete the wrong partition
but just letting you know your data is still there and fine
i wish i had looked into it more now and found out what the problem was
for you but just went with the quick and easy fix
older model dhgl and and gl dont suffer with this bug with devices in em mode
and i doubt you will see anymore fixes from buffalo as they have dumped the marvel orion
devices and dont like providing fixes for non selling models
How do you get the hard drive out of the unit? (LS-CH500L-EU)
There don't seem to be any screws to undo?
