Title: LinkStation Live Firmware Update
Post by: bjastbf on February 10, 2010, 01:08:32 AM

Pardon My Ignorance - new to all of this:

1 Are the firmware updates done over the network, or with the computer directly connected to LinkStation Live?

2. What is the difference between ver 1.07 and ver 1.24?  Why is there such a large gap between versions?

For reference I have a LinkStation Live LS-CHL 500.

Thanks

1.  Either, but if you're directly connected make sure the IP subnets match.

2.  There were two hardware versions of this unit.  If you have a blue web interface then the 1.07 is the latest.  If you have a red web interface then the 1.24 is the latest.

Hm ... So there are two different boxes that are the same model?

I recently received an new RMA box from Buffalo because my PS3 could not see any files stored on the Linkstation Live.  And tech support was unable to help me get the firmware up from 1.01 which shipped with it.

The replacement box has 1.06 installed on it, but my PS3 is now only able to see the music files stored on it. I spent an hour with tech support yesterday, and they were stumped as to how to get the PS3 to see the rest of the files stored on it, like photos and video.

Could this be an issue that the new model box might solve?

I've spent way too many hours trying to get something working with this, that should have happened right out of the - original - box.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks for your input.

Specifically, the PS3 sees only three folders: Video, Photos, Music

I have not created these folders on the Linkstation, so why does the PS3 see them?  What's generating these three folders?

Since I can see & play some of the music files, should I be placing the video & photos files in some special folder on the Linkstation?

Thanks

This is part of Twonky's DLNA connection, if you wish to manage what folders show and what they are named you can access Twonky's admin console by opening a browser and in the address bar typing type the linkstation's IP on port 9050 (ie: http://192.168.11.150:9050). This will bring up the actual Twonky controls, If you're only seeing some of the media on the drive there is an option in here to refresh database, this would be the best place to start as it rescans directories and indexes items accordingly.
