Hello all,
I have bought a Linkstation Mini 1GB approximately 1.5 years ago. This NAS drive was bought only for a personal usage and was used only occasionally and always turned off at night.
Yesterday I checked the SMART properties of the hard drive and I found out that:
193 Load_Cycle_Count 0x0012 052 052 000 Old_age Always - 489415 on /dev/sda
193 Load_Cycle_Count 0x0012 052 052 000 Old_age Always - 484803 on /dev/sdb
489415 and 484803 is extremely a lot!!! And besides Hitachi is specifying that this hard drive (HITACHI HTS545050KTA300) can hold up to 600 000 load cycle counts.
Does this mean that my NAS drive is going to die soon??? Should I worry and look for a new storage solution?
Thank you for your answers,
Best Regards
Seriously, start backing up dude!
It close to 500000 and Hitachi told you that their life cycle is 600000 so its kinda close to drive failure.
But then again, you said that you used it occasionally so its strange that it would go up to that number of cycles.
I've been using my drivestation for about 3 years and i only switched it off 5-7 times a year and the cycles are only 210000 only.
