Title: Login file corrupted?
Post by: Benta on January 31, 2010, 01:55:26 PM

I have a LinkStation Mini that I use a lot. Oddly, the main feature I like is the WoL.

Anyway, the NAS had a problem turning on the other day. It never got out of the "blinking mode", i.e. it wouldn't finish booting (I let it try for a couple of hours).

Then I restarted it. After that, one thing doesn't work any more: I can't login to the administration panel (the web interface). I have an admin password and a few user passwords, all saved in keepass on my laptop. None are recognized.

The funny thing is that all services work properly. I can log on with FTP (admin and users) and the Samba service work. Even the web based file manager works fine! No data is destroyed.

So I guess the system works with a number of password files, one per service (the samba service obviously _has_ to have its own), and that the one for the web admin interface got damaged.

Does any one have any idea on how to fix this in an easy way?

OK, if anyone else has this problem (and for the debuggers at buffalo): try log in with default password (i.e. "password").

It will fail.

But then again, try to log in with the normal password after that.

It worked for me...

Try to reflash the firmware and reinit the unit.  You will not lose data loss, but you might have to reconfig some basic settings.
