Title: Buffalo NAS model LS-WTGL/R1-V3 maximum hard drive upgrade
Post by: edbanh on May 25, 2022, 10:28:42 AM
Hi,
I have a Buffalo NAS model LS-WTGL/R1-V3 Series, the firmware version is 3.05. It currently has 2x 1TB hard drive, I would like to upgrade to a bigger size, would some guru let me know what the maximums hard drive I can upgrade? And if possible, it would be great to provide the instructions how to do that.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I believe the stock firmware would be limited to 2x2tb drives due to how the OS and bootloader work.

Running linux and using a hybrid-MBR you could work around that limit. The largest I've done on that generation of devices was 6tb (I haven't tried this exact model).

There is a 16tb volume limit that would apply to this device, so there would be a hard limit of 2x16tb drives in raid1 or 2x8tb in raid0.

It's a really old device at this point so compatibility with modern drives isn't guaranteed.
