Dear all,
I have a TeraStation Pro II (TS-HTGL/R5), firmware v1.04, that is just connected to my PC via ethernet cable. It has been running perfectly but last week my gf accidentally pulled the power supply out whilst running...and now it won't load properly.
On first attempt I got an alert sound after a minute or two and an error saying the kernel didn't load properly. On second attempt there was no error message but I can't connect to the TS and it doesn't show in NAS Navigator. The kernel took ages HDD lights are all blinking. I've checked all the connections and the LINK/ACT LED is lit. It also doesn't shut down properly, after I've held the power switch in for 5-10 seconds (longer than normal) it goes through the motions of shutting down (discs/fan power down) but LCD remains on. Strangely, the time is reading 33:40...
Any help appreciated!
Thanks,
Steve
Ok, another attempt brought up E23, aparently HDD1 is faulty and it's running in degrade mode. Another thread advises removing, reformatting and then forcing a firmware update. Any other thoughts or advice on how to reformat and update firmware appreciated.
Thanks.
You just need to replace the HD with another HD matching the same specs.
My TS has been gathering dust under my desk since learning that I need a new drive!
Some extra info please:
Firstly, is there any way to move files off the TS before/without replacing the drive?
Secondly, what are the key specs I need to match on the new drive? Is it easiest just to buy the same model?
And, finally, is it possible to put four larger drives in the TS, as long as I match the key specs?
Thanks,
Steve
If it is just the drive than by swapping in a new drive and re-syncing will allow the new disk into the raid w/o sacrificing data from the web interface. As for the disk, specifically, just need to be SATA 7200 RPM and the matching size as the other 3 disks
Sorry, do I presume correctly that I cannot get data off without adding a new drive (i.e. whilst one is missing) and that as long as I have four 7200s that they can be of any size (i.e. can replace all the 250Gb drives with 1Tb)?
Thanks
If the unit is in degrade you can still get the data from the 3 remaining drives, as long as the unit is still accessible the data can be copied
Sorry to ask the last bit again, but do I presume right that as long as I have four 7200s that they can be of any size (i.e. can replace all the 250Gb drives with 1Tb)?
That should be the lot!
Thanks,
Steve
You can swap them if you want to please be advised though that it will void the warranty, Buffalo does not support doing this. But by changing the drives 1 at a time you can format and rebuild each time until all 4 are in place than a final rebuild to see the total size
