Hi
I'm new to the forum so hello. I've had a 1.0TB LS-CHL LinkStation running happily for around a month now. However, in the last couple of days, I have not been able to see it in NasNavigator and can only intermittently connect to the web interface. Timemachine on my mac can no longer see it either. I haven't changed anything other than config settings since I got it and haven't touched even the config settings since well before this problem arose.
My firmware version is 1.10; I tried restarting and upgrading to the latest version of NasNavigator (2.2) but didn't solve the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions before I contact Buffalo tech support?
Thanks
Jim
Is there any diag lights blinking on the unit? Try mapping it via the run box and see if you can pull up the shares that way. If there is an updated firmware for your region I would update the firmware.
There are no diag lights blinking (that I have seen anyway) - the blue light stays lit. However, the unit it located upstairs, away from where I have been working so I can't see it the instant I get the connection failure.
Sorry, I should have mentioned in my initial post that I can access the shares from finder on the mac but this connection also fails (inline with the web interface outages).
I will try updating the firmware but the unit was working really well on the current firmware until recently.
Thanks
Is that how you are mapping the drive via Nas Navi?
Try mapping it like this for Windows.
Hold the windows key down on the key board and push R. Type in the box \\ipaddress and hit ok. It should bring your shares up. Which ever share you want to map right click on that share and go to map network drive.
For a Mac
Go to go then connect to server. Type in smb://ipaddress.
Thanks for all your help everyone. I'm still not where I want to be but have an update.
After a phone call to UK buffalo support, I updated the firmware to version 1.24. Then I connected the mac directly to my router via ethernet. Now I can see the linkstation in Nas Navi and timemachine which also now backs up fine. Disconnect the ethernet and go back to wi-fi and I'm back to where I was before, no linkstation in NasNavi or Timemachine. However, I can mount it as a volume still.
Really, I don't give a hoot if Nas Navi can see the linkstation or not but I think that whatever is preventing Nas Navi detecting it over wi-fi is the same that is preventing TimeMachine.
The main reason I bought this to use timemachine over wi-fi. If I can't get it working soon I'm sending it back to Amazon and buying a time capsule. I really don't want to do this as I genuinely think the linkstation is a good product ... Does anyone have any suggestions please ...
Thanks in advance.
Did you use MacBook's ethernet port MAC address, not its Airport MAC address.? When setting up for Time Machine over wireless, you need to use the ethernet MAC address.
Hi.
Yes, I used the MAC addr for eth0 which is mapped to my wired ethernet interface. It was all working over wifi for around a month then suddenly stopped for no apparent reason. I'm not a believer in computers stopping working with no change unless there is a hardware fault or file corruption but can't for the life of me see what is at fault here.
Does anyone have any idea why Nas Navi would be able to detect the linkstation on a wired ethernet connection but not wi-fi? I think that may be a clue to why time machine can't see it.
Thanks
Jim
