Hello everybody !
First, i'm a french user .. so i'm sorry for my english ...
I own a LS-WXL NAS (LS-WXL/R1 Series).
I tried to push debian buster on it with some guidelines ... but it's fail to boot.
Now, i have 2 goals :
1°/ reinstall the stock firmware and understand why what i did to do this, it failed
2°/ when the NAS will be OK and when i can quickly reinstall the stock firmware, retry to install Debian Buster on it.
I successfully reinstall the stock firmware 1.75 on the NAS BUT after a simple reboot, the NAS fail and lost the network configuration ...
What i did :
> extract the firmware files into the LS-series-fw175_fwwin.zip : initrd.buffalo, uImage-88f5182.buffalo, uImage-lsp.5.x.buffalo
> cp uImage-lsp.5.x.buffalo uImage.buffalo
> change my laptop IP adress to 192.168.1.1
> power ON the NAS in "function mode"
> use TFTP_Boot_Recovery with files initrd.buffalo and uImage.buffalo : files were pushed sucessfully
> open NAS Navigator and wait for the device appear (in EM mode)

> change IP to 195.168.11.150 / 255.255.255.0
> edit LSUpdater.ini with this modifications

• untick all and tick only Do Not Check Version / Rebuild Partition table / Force Update
• message error : « Partition not found »
• just flick the switch on the back of the NAS to off and wait for it to shut down (up to 10 mins)
• then flick the switch to ON (not Auto) and wait until it fully reboots (The orange light may appear, but will turn to a steady blue light after 5 mins) ...
fail led error blinking X6 ..
> retried the TFTP boot with the same files
> switch the NAS in "function mode" ....
> the device reappear in NAS Navigator but not in EM mode ....

> old IP is back (what ??!)
> i change my laptop IP and i CAN ping the NAS ... so i'm happy ... BUT ...
> after a reboot ... 6 red leds error blinkings ... the NAS lost her configuration ....
> i tried the same operation BUT before reboot :
>> go to the web interface
>> check if the NAS is in static IP (and it's case)
>> check the disks (array)
>> format disks sucessfully ... and ... after reboot, the same poop ... 6 red leds error, the NAS lost her configuration ....
I wanna understand what i did bad ... can you help me ? I'm sad for the NAS but happy to understand many thinks about this NAS :)
Hi all,
I'm back with some news ...
I tried to reinstall original firmware on 2 other disks (2 HITACHI 250Gb disks) ... and i was succed !
After this success, i checked the original disks (st2000dm001-9yn164) with Seatools.
I ran all tests one by one without ANY errors ... so ... what's wrong with the orginal disks ???
Why i can't successuffly reinstall the original firmware ...... ?
Hello ...
Back again ...
I tried to reinstall original FW on 500Gb disks without success ...
So ... after that, i tried to install Debian Buster on the 500Gb diks with this method : https://github.com/1000001101000/Debian_on_Buffalo/wiki/Alternate-install-method-via-debootstrap-script .. with no more sucess ..

Found valid MBR and corrupt GPT. Which do you want to use? (Using the
GPT MAY permit recovery of GPT data.)
1 - MBR
2 - GPT
3 - Create blank GPT
Your answer: 2
Command (? for help): w
Final checks complete. About to write GPT data. THIS WILL OVERWRITE EXISTING
PARTITIONS!!
Do you want to proceed? (Y/N): y
OK; writing new GUID partition table (GPT) to /dev/sdb.
-> no boot (power on blue light blinking in loop) / no ssh.
After that, i tried with this method : https://miniconf.debian.or.jp/assets/files/Debian%20Installer%20for%20Buffalo%20Linkstation%20NAS.pdf with ;
> orginal disks : no success / no ssh
> 500Gb disks : no sucess / no ssh
> 250Gb disks : seem to fail too ... (no boot since 8:00 today) .. and no ssh ...
I ran Wireshark to check if NAS has IP adress but i saw no IP ...
In back to NAS, i can see green light ... so i think the LAN card into NAS works correctly ...
What wrong with me ?
Hi !
Back with some progress ...
I just tried with Stretch stable files (http://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/stretch/main/installer-armel/current/images/kirkwood/network-console/buffalo/ls-wxl/) on 250Gb disks.
I finally got the SSH connexion on IP 192.168.11.150 (the default IP i guess ?).
But, during the installer, i can't change this IP.
I ran the first option (detect network hardware) and i saw the green LED on the LAN card suddendly off and after, no more LEDs activity on the LAN card ...
Answser to myself ... ('cause i'm alone i guess ^^')
I successfully changed my IP ! :D
When the Debian setup appears, i choose "Configure the Network".
Just after, i unpluged the RJ45 and connected it to our DHCP. And voilà !
I sucessfully configure disks to RAID1 mode and now, i'm installing the system ... and cross fingers.
Hi,
Did you follow the guide ?

I'm using the TFTP on this thread : https://blog.aaronhastings.me/completely-recovering-from-a-bricked-buffalo-linkstation-ls200-series-nas-and-opening-the-firmware-too/ with the extracted firmware files of LS-WXL ...
