Hello
I have now got my Webaccess working on my Buffalo Linkstation Pro LS-XHL. Thank you very much for what I found on this forum.
When I am trying to open a video file and download it, I am only getting a transfer rate of 13KB/Sec, which means that a 20Mb file takes 20 minutes or so.
For information, my router is 100Mbs. The NAS is directly connected to the router (Thomson TG587 v7)
Is this normal transfer rate? Because it is really slow! Any suggestion on how to improve the speed by a major factor?
Thank you very much
Make sure that you have the latest firmware and that you aren't double natting. The actual speed will depand on the network.
Thank you very much for the reply.
I only have one router on the network, so definitively no double natting.
What transfer rate would you normally expect via WebAccess?
Not too sure if it is relevant, but I have just checked my Broadband speed test, and I have got a 410 kbps upload speed.
Regards
I have gotten around to checking yet (sorry been a little busy). I just figured that 13 KB was a little low. I will test that for you and post back.
Thank you very much for your help. Much appreciated.
I have just tried WebAccess from my home computer. I am getting 3.2Mb/s, so that is working well enough. Hop that it helps.

I was about to ask you that. It looks like it will all depend on the networks at both lacations. Obviously there will be a slight drop due to bandwidth ect.
I appreciate that.
But in summary, I have got:
- 3200 Kb/s on my network
- 410 Kb/s upload speed on my broadband connection
- 60 Kb/s transfer rate via Webaccess. (When I tried later, instead of the original 13Kb/s)
Is this what you would expect?
What do I need to change most to improve that performance, and how much could I then expect?
Regards
I was having exactly this issue - upload speeds of about 50KB/second on average - incredibly frustrating when I started putting files onto the NAS... I did find that this was much more of an issue when uploading from the WLAN to the linkstation, which is on the wired LAN like yours is (directly connected to my DSL router)
I updated to firmware version 1.24
http://www.buffalo-technology.com/support/getfile/?LS-XHL-fw124.zip
from the firmware update page for my of my 1TB linkstation pro.
This now seems to have done the trick, my upload speed while on WLAN has now gone up to 2-3MB/second
Hope this helps :-)
On a separate note, I do find it incredible frustrating that the only way I can get my files to the linkstation is via mapped drives to the NAS, and not by USB hard-drive, which seems to only work for backing files OFF the NAS.
