Title: need TFTPboot.exe for LS220D
Post by: Paul Knupke on February 01, 2022, 06:50:30 PM
I upgraded drives in my Linkstation LS220D to a pair of 4 GB drives.  I am stuck in Emergency Mode in NAS Navigator.  Where can I find TFTPboot.exe and instructions for my LD220D?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Did anything ever happen with this?  I'm in the same boat.  Just put in two new 4TB drives and it's in emergency mode and I cannot update the firmware because it can't find the partition.

I added some notes to the wiki page for dealing with the partitioning thing:

Is there a way to do this without linux?  I've played with ubuntu a bit, but I don't know my way around the terminal at all.

I see there's a link on the wiki to restore the firmware on a LS220DE (which I have) from the internal NAND but the link is broken.

Well, I put both of the old drives back in and it booted, I was able to update the firmware.

Tried swapping out one drive, and it didn't boot again.
But the old drive back in and it booted like previous.

Currently rebuilding the RAID 1 array.  Will try to break the mirror and put the new bigger drive in and see if it accepts that.
waiting 1050 minutes.  Whee!!

Well, that failed.  After it completed making the array, I tried replacing one of the drives and it booted back into EM.
I was hoping it would rebuild the array with the 4TB drive.

Will EXT4 work or does it have to be EXT3?

the /boot filesystem on that device must be ext3

Okay, this is becoming very frustrating.

I used gparted to format the drives as ext3.  Then I created the /mnt/buffalo folder and put the two .buffalo firmware files from the previous steps inside.

Still comes up in EM in NASNavigator.
I also ran LSUpdater and it still can't find a partition.  Same for debug mode.

EM mode is the goal of all the ext3 formatting and the file loading etc.

I have notes on how to manually trigger the formatting process on that wiki page linked earlier. They removed that capability from lsupdater for some reason.

I've been looking and can't seem to find it.

Is this it?  https://buffalonas.miraheze.org/wiki/Linkstation_LS220D#Install_from_built_in_NAND

If so, the link no longer works.

No, I meant the page that I linked earlier.....however if you locate the quick start guide on the support page that would probably work too.

I'm sorry, but I'm just not seeing it.   Could you provide a link please?

It's right on buffalo's download page for the device:

I'm sorry, I'm still not seeing anything about getting it out of Emergency mode.

I think I'm misunderstanding what you're directing me to.

your best bet is probably to start over with blank drives and follow the quickstart guide step by step.

The quick setup guide link for the LS220DE is not working.

And by blank, what do you mean?  Unformatted? Formatted to ext3? Something else?

The last link I posted is to Buffalo's LS200 support page.

One of the links on that page is for: " Manuals and Quick Setup Guides for the LS220DE Diskless Enclosure"

If you follow that link you will find a page with the quick start guide and a guide for wiping drives if the quickstart procedure doesn't work.

Sorry for the delay in responding, I've been busy with other things.

I've tried going through the quick start guide, and tried again after following the directions on "If the LinkStation Doesn't Boot after a Hard Drive is Installed" document.

Every time NAS Navigator 2 comes up in emergency mode.
I do not understand what I'm doing wrong.

I wish the quick start guide had some better explanations that just the pictures.
The user manual only covers the LS220, not the LS220DE, otherwise I'd think they'd have a section about installing drives into the enclosure.
