Title: Terra Statoin poor performance
Post by: ali79 on November 18, 2008, 12:53:30 AM

Hi,

I have terra station live model HS-DH1.0TGL/R5 , and I connect the unit to my leas line (DSL , speed of 256/256 kbps ) . when access the shared folder in the unit localy the performance is acceptable , but when try to connect the unit remotely from my home ( I use DSL of 1Mb ) the performance is very poor ,

I have word files and excel files need to be edited , no large file transfer is needed .

Is there any thing can be done to boost the performance while connect to the unit remotely ?

What do you expect with a 1Mb line?! This is nothing to do with the Terastation but the throughput from your dsl line, only soluation... get a faster connection.

While unrelated to the original question on external network speed, I do have a complaint on the TeraStation speed.

On a closed home network, with both (and only) Terastation and XP laptop WIRED to Netgear RangeMax240 (100mbps network), transfer is consistantly limited to an average of 1.75 MBps (with bursts to 2.4).

Terribly slow.

I'm guessing this is a "by design feature" - ie, nothing can really be done.

Did I mention it was slow?

Half as fast as the documented average

Doubling time rates adds up painfully for large file transfers.

Others see this behavior?

Anyone seeing an average of 3-4 MBps with standard setup?

ISSUE: TeraStation Transfer Rates
PLATFORM: TeraStation NAS
SOLUTION:
Terastation Transfer Rates (Regular, Home Server and Pro):
Average transfer speeds on the unit are 3-4 MBps (24-36 Mbps) on a 100 Mbps network and 7-8 MBps (56-64 Mbps) on a gigabit network. Some users have reported speed increases up to 11 MBps when using Jumbo frames in conjunction with Gigabit.

What firmware are you running and on which model? Please provide more information before registering a complaint.

Good point.

    Model: HS-D2.0TGL/R5      Firmware: 2.03   (2007-08-17)

It'd be nice if the web interface told me the actual model number.

And it'd be nice if that model number had some relevence in the main site search results:

Your search "HS-D2.0TGL/R5" did not match any documents.

The products in the Supprt/Download section shows this is the most recent firmware version.
