Title: LS520D non-responsive - how to restore?
Post by: ed_g on November 03, 2021, 05:45:47 AM
I've had a good search through the forums and have to say I am not sure how to proceed, so looking for a bit of advice.

I have an LS520D which had been working nicely on a static IP. Recently I have had some connection issues, but a couple of restarts has always resolved the issue. On the latest restart, however, the Linkstation has dropped off the network and I cannot find it on NAS Navigator or any local network scans, ping the static IP, and so on. The power led is white (powered ok, boots ok), the network led is flashing, I have no error LEDS, the fans spin up - basically externally it looks just fine I just can't "see" it. A post suggested a default IP might be 192.168.11.150 - but again no luck (configuring my IP to be on the same subnet).

So my thinking is that something in the hardware of the unit, probably around the network interface, is goosed. I don't know what else I could do to check this but I suspect it doesn't matter.

I have instructions on how to recover the data from the drives, so that's not a problem. I have instructions on how to reset the initial settings, but I don't want to do that until I have extracted the data. I don't know if I can simply drop my drives into a new LS520 chassis, initial investigation suggests that this is not an option as the drives will be reformatted. I originally bought two LinkStations (LS520D(main) and a LS210D(backup)) so I could use one as a dedicated backup but this doesn't seem to work anyway so if this is a common problem and one not easily fixed I wonder if I should be looking at an alternative NAS/backup system instead of trying to resolve this one, either Buffalo or not?

All thoughts/advice gratefully received.

Hi buddy, it better to look for an alternative NAS.
