Title: Connecting VISTA/XP computers to NAS Terastations
Post by: tempena on January 05, 2010, 08:33:27 PM

One thing I noticed is that you can do all the registry settings and install the patch and whatever you find in the forums...just like i did...but there is also another setting that has to be set - either in XP or Vista

This is for Wired Ethernet Connections. You will need to repeat the steps if you also use Wireless - just select the Wireless network connection instead of the Local Area Connection.

In Vista:

Go to Start - Settings - Control Panel

Go to Network and Sharing Center - select Manage Network Connections.

On Local Area Connection – right click and select Properties

Click Continue on UAC prompt.

Select TCP/IPv4 and click on Properties.

Click on Advanced.

Click on WINS tab.

In the NetBIOS setting, select "Default" option.

In XP:

Go to Start - Settings - Control Panel

Go to Network Connections

On Local Area Connection – right click and select Properties

Select TCP/IP and click on Properties.

Click on Advanced.

Click on WINS tab.

In the NetBIOS setting, select "Default" option.

Remember, If you also use wireless and/or wired network access, righ click on the choice or repeat the process for each that you use.
