Title: Computer feel asleep during DriveStation transfer
Post by: oofers on June 22, 2021, 07:36:40 AM
Hello potential advice-givers.

I was very disappointed that Buffalo wouldn't even allow a simple phone inquiry (because I am out of warranty) for something that I am sure is a routine problem.  And I found no info on their site.  I tried searching here in the forums, and while I'm sure it's been brought up before, my search was fruitless.

I have a HD-GD3.

I used it backup all my my data while migrating to a new PC.  During a simple (albeit very large) drag-and-drop copy, the new, destination PC went to sleep.

The HD-GD3 is no longer visible in My Computer, but is visible in the Windows 10 Disk Management utility.  It is listed as "Unknown" and "Not Initialized."

I obviously don't want to experiment here because I do not want to lose my data.

Will initializing the drive in the Disk Management utility make it visible again in My Computer and the problem is solved?

I read that initializing doesn't erase the drive, but thereafter the need to partition does.  I would think I would not need to re-partition, but I'm just scared to make a move at this point.

The drive has never done this before in all the years I've owned it, and again, I am certain that the PC going to sleep caused the issue.

Thanks in advance for any help!
