Title: Old AirStation WBR-G54 turn it to an wireless access point?
Post by: midibear on May 16, 2021, 08:44:43 PM
Dear friends,

I found one in my basement which I'm hoping to use it as an wireless Access Point.. (connecting to another WiFi router in the basement, and the router is connected to cable modem)...

Is this possible? If so, can someone please give me some instructions?

Also, the four Ethernet ports. If I have 600Mbps xfinity Internet connection, if I use WBR-G54 to connect (via Ethernet cable) to the WiFi router, if I plug in PCs to one of the four Ethernet ports, would I still be able to get >500Mbps Internet speed? Thanks!

This unit is nearly 20 years old. IF you can use it as a wireless access point to an existing wireless connection (which i'm pretty sure you can't, it uses the old broadcom WDS system so wouldn't be compatible) then.

1. You're speeds would reduce to next to nothing.
2. If can only connect via WEP encryption which is highly unsecure.

Do yourself a favor, ditch it and buy something new.
