Title: TS1200D - Can I replace ST4000DM000-1F21 with ST4000DM004 ?
Post by: beeq on May 16, 2021, 07:08:28 AM
Hi all, in 2015 I bought TeraStation 1200D and now the second drive has failed. My local retailers do not have ST4000DM000 -drives in stock, so my question is if I can replace the failed drive with ST4000DM004 and I could expect the array working again on-a-fly ? I tried looking the meaning of that last digit on the model number with no results.

Web client http://192.168.0.xx/detail.html#disk for this TS says that Array1 is Degraded. 93% used, XFS File System.

Thanks in advance for your replies, and have a pleasant Sunday!

Yes, once the specs of the disks match it should be fine, put the new disk in and recover the RAID via Drives - RAID - Array1.

Thanks for your reply!

According to https://pangoly.com/en/compare/hdd/seagate-4tb-barracuda-st4000dm004-vs-seagate-barracuda-4tb the newer drive have higher cache 256MB vs 64MB and higher RPM 5900 vs 5400.

Thanks again

RPM should match or else you could have issues, the cache can he higher. The make / model number doesn't need to match.
