Title: Speed comparison of Linkstation Pro vs. newer 700 series
Post by: CSM on May 05, 2021, 08:23:10 PM
Is there somewhere I can get a speed comparison of Linkstation Pro vs. the newer model 700?  2 bay is all I need.  Wondering if any advantage of upgrading to newer model.

Linkstation Pro seems slow overall, so also any advice to check speed and improve would be appreciated.

I've spent  some time playing around with CPU benchmarks on the different models:
https://buffalonas.miraheze.org/wiki/Benchmarks

I haven't gotten my hands on a 700-series yet (anyone want to send me one one?) but I would expect the CPU to be like 10x faster. Real world performance will be limited by things like network speed, hard drive speed etc.

I believe there are datasheets out there for these models though looking at the 700-series one doesn't seem to list a specific transfer rate other than it supports up to 2.5Gbe
https://www.buffalotech.com/products/linkstation-700-series-desktop

The older devices usually quoted a specific speed but I didn't find one (with an admittedly quick search) for the Linkstation Pro. It has 1Gbe network but the real limit was likely much lower than that  due to other limitations.
