Hello i have a 2x4TB LS220D buffalo drive, it was working okay - but after a reboot recently during a power test of the building, when it turns on,
i get:
an initial red light on the upper(power) led, then that goes away and the lower (function?) light changes to blinking white, i think it is the function light and nothing else. it doesn't seem to appear on the nas navigator or be visible or anything.
i tried turning it on and pressing the function button at the back hoping for a factory reset, but that doesnt seem to do anything?
Does anyone know how i can at least get it turning on again as it runs the secondary backups for my small business?
If someone can point me in the right direction i will be grateful since the manual doesn't seem to cover this scenario
hello all
after much tinkering, i managed to get it seen by the nas navigator tool as EM using these...

so in bay 1 i have:
a 4tb drive in gpt with a 1gb ext3 partition with initrd.buffalo and uImage.buffalo
in bay 2, its just a blank drive from a gpt structure and no partitions
however when i reach the stage of modifying LSUpdater.ini and i have the file:
[Application]
Title = BUFFALO LinkStation Series Updater Ver.1.75
WaitReboot = 1200
WaitFormat = 600
WaitFileSend = 600
WaitDiscover = 120
[Target]
ProductID = 0x80000000
ProductID2 = 0x0000001D
ProductID3 = 0x0000300D
ProductID4 = 0x0000300E
ProductID5 = 0x00003011
ProductID6 = 0x0000002E
Name = LinkStation
[Flags]
VersionCheck = 0
NoFormatting = 0
[SpecialFlags]
Debug = 1
the option saying "run complete format" is greyed out so i cant proceed as there is no partitions except a 1GB partition with the 2 .buffalo files on disk 1 and disk 2 is blank
my gut says its a 2 bay model thinking itsa 4 bay or soemthing?

break it? haha
i was at the end of my tether, so i looked around for an older version of the ls220 firmware updater, i was using 1.75, but i found 1.62 and oddly enough the menu wasn't greyed out so i guess the switch in the .ini doesnt work on 1.75 !!!

i hope this helps someone else who is stuck
I ran into the same issue you did. I didn't see a way to enable that check box (maybe support could tell us how to do it?).
1. Boot into EM mode as normal
2. Use acp_commander to start a telnet shell on the device and connect to it.
3. (possibly optional) make sure the drive(s) are blank dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdx bs=4k
4. Manually start the partitioning script /usr/local/bin/create_partition.sh
5. once that completes run through the install with LSUpdater and the available debug options.
Obviously, just using the older installer and then updating the firmware once it's online is also an option. I just worry about installer files from sketchy download sites like that.
when i used the 1.62 lsupdater pack it worked :) 1.7x seems to be a bit pants!

The steps I mentioned make it work for the latest version, messy though that is.
I'm planning to add some notes about it to the wiki pages, I'm not sure what else I can do at this point.
Sorry for the late reply
I hope i have provided enough information to help others here, as i hate to see technology become unusable for pointless reasons like the partitions failing.
Thank you for updating the wiki :)
