Title: LS-WTGL has slowed down
Post by: johnhrschusterr on December 30, 2009, 10:04:10 PM

I have 2 LS-WTGL each with 2 1TB USB hooked up to it.  Identical paired 3TB Buffalo systems.   One of them has slowed down considerably taking 60 minutes to copy 730MB while the other one with the same file only takes 4 minutes.

The slow LS-WTGL system is slow with all three mapped shares (Share, USBDISK1 and USBDISK2).

I can run the NASNaviagtor and noticed that the slow LS-WTGL is version 3.08 while the quick one is version 3.07.  However I haven't updated the firmware that I can remember.    However I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday so that's not saying I didn't do one  ;-)

I have seen under the web admin the Maintenance--> Initilization-->  Restore defaults option.   If I use this will I loose the data on drives?

If the firmware is the issue how do I get 3.07 back on the slow LS-WTGL?

Is the correct direction or should I do something different.

Thanks and Happy New Year

The firmware shouldn't matter, the initialization is a good idea and it will not result in data loss (no matter what the message might say).  How full are both of the units to capacity?

The one that is running slower is at 58% capacity, the quicker one is is at 50%.    Bought both units at the same time so I was surprised with the firmware difference.  Probably means I updated one and not the other.   Just tried copy copy a 788MB file and it estimated 88 minutes to the slow drive.  On the faster driver it took 4 minutes.

Well I re-initilized the slower unit.  Using NAS navigator I was able to get to the drive.  The IP address changed but no big deal there.  Slower LS-WTGL unit is taking 55 minutes to copy 788MB.  The faster  LS-WTGL is doing the same 788MB in 1-4 minutes depending on which system I run it from.

So far I've been impressed with Buffalo product, but I think 60 minutes to copy less than a GB is excessive.  Is there anything else I can do?

Go into your network settings in the Web Admin and under the Ethernet Frame Size Properties try to use Jumbo Frames and see if that helps.
